“Invest in yourself completely this weekend and commit to everything you can receive and you will be a different person when you leave.” That is the promise of Kristi and Matt Trede’s Burnout to Balance Retreat held at The Welcome to the Big House, 24-27 November 2016. I was not disappointed, having decided that I was ready for some change. As such, I did commit to everything and as such experienced some excited shifts, some which I am still processing.
The biggest challenge in a retreat such as this is RESISTENCE. But I have come to believe in the value of vulnerability and as Brené Brown states, “You can’t get to courage without walking through vulnerability.” Many topics were covered; energy management, holding space, masculine/feminine archetypes, our relationships with the different roles we are a part of (i.e. such as money, the past, the future, family, work, success, anger, love and so on. “The perception of yourself, . . . creates . . . the mask we present to the world.”
A major emphasis was the statement “you can control three things – words, actions and our thoughts.” Utilising this mantra, as such, we were then invited to look at how we perceive others, which is usually in the form of a judgement. But we were also reminded of Carl Jung’s statement, who believed that “we can’t see anything outside of us that isn’t in us.” This reminded me of a saying which I heard many years ago. “If someone gets your goat, it proves that you’ve got a goat to get”; one which I have always felt uncomfortable accepting.
The last and major part of the retreat was being invited to “walk through a healing journey”; to heal a relationship. It meant challenging my own perceptions of a relationship. This process also draws on the work of Bryon Katie which she calls thework.com.
Kristy and Matt were wonderful hosts. They provided beautiful, healthy meals, all shared around a family atmosphere. Kristy was exceptionally good in holding presence and a safe space with the group and especially at an individual level.
Would I attend another retreat with Kristi and Matt? Most definitely YES!!
